Not everyone has 10-12 days for the full Chardham Yatra — the Do Dham Yatra, covering just Kedarnath and Badrinath, is a popular shorter alternative that still covers two of the most significant shrines in the circuit.
What Do Dham means
"Do Dham" translates to "two shrines," referring specifically to Kedarnath and Badrinath, skipping Gangotri and Yamunotri. This is a genuine, respected pilgrimage in its own right, not a lesser version of Chardham — many travelers choose it deliberately due to time constraints or because they've already visited Gangotri/Yamunotri on a previous trip.
Sample 7-day itinerary
- Day 1: Haridwar/Dehradun to Guptkashi (approx. 8-9 hours)
- Day 2: Guptkashi to Gaurikund, trek to Kedarnath, darshan and overnight at Kedarnath
- Day 3: Early morning Kedarnath darshan, trek down to Gaurikund, drive to Rudraprayag
- Day 4: Rudraprayag to Joshimath
- Day 5: Joshimath to Badrinath, darshan, overnight
- Day 6: Badrinath to Rudraprayag/Devprayag
- Day 7: Return to Haridwar/Dehradun
This can compress to 6 days with longer driving days, or extend to 8 with more rest halts.
