The Haridwar Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 is officially confirmed to run from 14 January to 20 April 2027 (97 days), with three confirmed Amrit Snan (formerly Shahi Snan) days on 6 March, 8 March, and 14 April 2027. An estimated 8-10 crore pilgrims are expected. Given the scale, travelers are advised to book taxis and accommodation well in advance, especially around the Amrit Snan dates.
Haridwar Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027: Dates, Taxi Booking & Travel Guide
Haridwar is preparing for one of its largest religious gatherings in years — the Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 is now officially confirmed, and with 8-10 crore pilgrims expected over more than three months, early planning will make a real difference for anyone visiting during this period.
Confirmed dates
The Haridwar Ardh Kumbh Mela 2027 runs from 14 January 2027 (Makar Sankranti) to 20 April 2027 (Chaitra Purnima) — a total of 97 days. These dates were officially finalized by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in consultation with the 13 Akharas and the Akhara Parishad.
What "Ardh Kumbh" means
Ardh Kumbh ("Half Kumbh") is held once every six years in Haridwar, midway between two full Kumbh Melas. This one follows the 2025 Prayagraj Maha Kumbh and precedes the next full Haridwar Kumbh in 2033. Despite being called "Ardh," its religious and spiritual significance remains on the same scale as a Maha Kumbh for most devotees.
Amrit Snan (Shahi Snan) dates
For 2027, the government has renamed "Shahi Snan" to "Amrit Snan." Three dates are officially confirmed as the main Amrit Snan days:
- 6 March 2027
- 8 March 2027
- 14 April 2027
These are the most crowded and spiritually significant bathing days, when Akharas process to the ghats in a fixed order and Naga Sadhus bathe first. If you're planning to avoid peak crowds, treat these three dates as the ones to plan around — the mela's other Snan Parva days (10 in total across the full period) are comparatively less crowded.
Why book early
With 8-10 crore pilgrims expected across the mela period, taxi and accommodation availability in and around Haridwar will tighten dramatically as the dates approach — especially around the three Amrit Snan days. Booking months in advance, rather than closer to the date, is the single best way to avoid both higher prices and last-minute unavailability.
Planning your Kumbh visit
Whether you're visiting for a specific Amrit Snan date or a quieter period within the 97-day window, we recommend confirming your taxi well ahead — this is one of the few events in Uttarakhand's calendar large enough that even non-peak days can see unusually high demand.
