Auli — the skiing destination
Auli is Uttarakhand's best-known winter destination, drawing visitors for its ski slopes and snow-covered views of Nanda Devi. The ski season generally runs January through March, when snow cover is at its best, though the scenery and cable car (ropeway) ride are worth it even outside peak skiing weeks. Auli is reached via Joshimath, roughly 10 km by road or a scenic ropeway ride.
Mussoorie — winter snowfall
Mussoorie sees genuine snowfall in peak winter (typically late December into January), and draws a different crowd than its summer visitors — people specifically chasing snow rather than escaping heat. Mall Road and Camel's Back Road take on a completely different character under snow, and it's a far easier winter trip than Auli given its proximity to Dehradun.
